The Story
The Lohen Mid brake kit (MBK) suits all Gen 1 and Gen 2 models (except JCW variants of the Gen 2 that already utilise the same size discs and caliper style).
The kit replaces the standard calipers and discs at the front with larger items. The calipers produce more braking force whilst the larger discs provide more braking area, which improves bite and resistance to fade.
The Mid Brake kit utilises JCW (316 x 22 mm) sized EBC drilled and grooved discs and calipers.
The brake kit also includes Goodridge front braided brake lines to enhance brake pedal feel and improve fade resistance and to further assist with this we've included high temperature Motul DOT 5.1 brake fluid.
The Lohen MBK has been designed as an alternative solution to a big brake kit, and offers many advantages too. Braking is more balanced and progressive, ideal for everyday use as the brake pedal gives better feedback to the driver.
Offered in the brake kit are uprated brake pads, including EBC's favoured Yellowstuff pad ideal for enthusiastic road use or Mintex's latest FR pad or the lates Pagid Street+ compound that offers uses excellent heat resistance on circuit.
Each of the pads offered is E marked for legal use on the road allowing the user to select their preferred brake compound; like tyres it's a personal thing. However each are well developed compounds ideal for fast road and light track day use.
Some consideration on wheel size will be required, 17" wheels are generally required and recommended for clearance and to allow space and air around the discs and calipers for cooling. Wheel spacers may be required for some wheels - check out our range of wheel spacers.
The Lohen MBK is a more subtle brake upgrade compared to a big brake kit, great if you prefer your MINI to be a stealthier fast road sleeper!
Avid track day go-er? Always going through discs and pads? The Lohen MBK offers an inexpensive way of improving your braking system without the high replacement costs associated with some big brake kit conversions. The discs and pads are far cheaper to replace which means you can spend more of your hard earned money on track day admissions and less on replacing general wear and tear items after the last one! That said, it's hard to beat the performance of a big brake kit and if usage is more geared towards circuit and track day use consider the Lohen 330 Big Brake kit instead.
